Vale of Clwyd Mind has been providing Supported Housing for residents of Denbighshire with severe mental health problems since 1990. We work closely with the local Housing Associations, Clwyd Alyn and Grwp Cynefin and with the local community mental health teams.
We rely on close partnerships with the Local Health Board and Denbighshire County Council (Supporting People) for funding.
Y Gelli is a residential care home developed in partnership with Vale of Clwyd Mind, Grwp Cynefin and the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board and consists of six flats providing accommodation for ten people.
Y Gelli provides 24 hour care and individual support for people with a serious mental illness who have long term continuing health care needs. We are registered with the Care & Social Services Inspectorate Wales. We have close links with the Community Mental Health Teams and other appropriate agencies and community projects.
Vale of Clwyd Mind is a leading Mental Health Charity (affiliated to National Mind) who aims to provide sustainable services to support and care for people with mental health problems. We also campaign for improvements in services which are socially inclusive and also campaign for the elimination of the stigma associated with mental illness.
Within the flats individual programmes of care and rehabilitation are carried out, with common themes of increasing daily living skills and the ability to make choices and decisions, therefore improving the quality of life and range of life experiences available to residents.
Furnishings and decor are maintained to a high standard. There is an emphasis on privacy and choice within Y Gelli and integration into the wider community. All flats are furnished, but residents are encouraged to bring their own furnishings and personal possessions if they choose.
Enquiries and applications are welcomed for people who have experienced mental health difficulties and who wish to develop their skills and confidence whilst living at Y Gelli.
The relatively small size of Y Gelli helps make the development of closer relationships and friendships both with other residents and people in the local community a valued experience.
Here at Y Gelli we offer the opportunity to live close to the town centre and we are ideally situated near to facilities for shopping, transport, recreation, Library and education. There is no fixed length of stay, Residents are assisted to become as independent as they are able and to develop the skills required to move on to more independent living accommodation if they so wish.
